Provisioning error. Wont connect after submit

Provisioning error. Wont connect after submit

Postby rvsuper8 » Mon Mar 19, 2012 11:22 am

CT30.
I can connect, scan, select the network, put info, submit, and it starts its routine and beeps every second and never gives me a green light. After a minute of beeping it give a few rapid beeps and then continues beeping every second.
I have tried different security settings from none to WEP to WPA etc (obviously changing the router), and each time its the same.
I have tried the manual settings through advanced and the results are the same.
Ive moved the module to slot 1. No change.
I have a C wire, I have the day under the temp. I have provisioned others that work fine.
Whats next please.
Thanks
Mike

Are the other thermostats on the same network? Is your network speaking "G"? Is your DHCP server up? Does it still have addresses available?

yes the thermostats are on the same G network.
Yes DHCP is up and serving other hosts on the network.
Many addresses available.

Try resetting the thermostat by either pressing the reset button under the top cover or by pressing the menu button, press and hold the center of the menu screen, a two digit number will appear, tap the up arrow, and wait for the countdown to finish. Try the provisioning process again and see if those steps solved the problem.

Also, how many WiFi devices, including thermostats, do you own? Excessive WiFi traffic, from multiple devices, can effect the provisioning/connecting process. I recommend turning of non-essential devices during the provisioning process.

There are 6 devices on wifi. I turned them all off.
Reset button (which Ihave been using on each try of this), and the outcome is the same.
No security on the wifi on this try, no other devices.
Just beeps away one beep per second, which I assume is the unit trying to obtain its address and get happy with the wifi.

I had this problem when installing my thermostat recently. I would see 1 to 6 zeros displayed in the upper left hand corner of the display in combination with beeping. The fix for me was to assign a static IP address to the thermostat during provisioning. The thermostat then connected to the network.

The march of the zeros is a sign that your thermostat did not configure an IP address. There are many variables which can cause this:
When you press the tiny reset button, do you see a green light or a yellow light?

If it is green, the thermostat will display the last octet of its IP address in the left corner.
If the light is yellow, the thermostat will display the 5 digit provisioning pin in the left corner.
If the light is red, the thermostat is not connected and you may have to reset to factory default in the method wfisher describes:
Put the thermostat in OFF. Press the Menu button, press and hold the center of the menu screen, a two digit number will appear, tap the up arrow, and wait for the countdown to finish, then tap the down arrow.

If you still see red, how is your C wire connected? If you are using a transformer, make sure you are using a low voltage 16-24 V AC transformer with between 100-300 milliamps (about 1/3 of an amp.)

I read through about 10 posts that ended in exactly the same thing (march of 0's), which is what I was experiencing. NOTHING I did helped.. I went out a bought a new router, tried moving the router much closer, etc. all to no avail. I was following all of the steps exactly as I should have.

After multiple calls to support, when I reached someone (who was nothing short of awesome, btw) they advised that it's possible that the radio doesn't want to provision correctly due to firmware.

After 4+ hours (over 2 days) of trying everything I could possibly think of and being on the verge of returning the tstat... support walked me through a manual firmware upgrade and resolved my issue within perhaps 20-30 minutes. After being reset, the tstat connected almost immediately using the same steps I had previously tried a couple hundred times.

Just wanted to say, if you're having issues, don't give up and return the product until you've spoken with support. They're great, as is the thermostat... super pleased with it!

-HTH
