Temp Alarms

Postby wolfpack » Thu Nov 18, 2010 3:16 am

I would love to see temperature alarms via the iPhone app. While it's not very often, if my AC unit goes out during a hot summer day, I'd like to know as early as possible to schedule service. I have several friends who have come home to a hot house only to have the service techs be closed. No fun sleeping in a 90+ deg house. Same for cold weather and trying to fix a problem before pipes freeze.

This issue has been brought up numerous times!! I found it very frustrating to see that a temperature alarm posting is the very last post and I can't seem to locate the post I had made and many others commented on previously. I even called the "new" company to ask if this feature is on the official plan of features to be added, was told they would call me back with an answer and never did! . The infrastructure is already there with the email alert that the system is offline - why can't they just add the ability to set a high and low temperature alarm. Many many people would find this useful and potentially save thousands in repair bills if a house were to freeze while the owner is away. We were previously told that this feature was going to be added in early 2011 and we are now at the end of 2011 and there still is no update or feedback on the issue. I have been waiting to have this feature added before purchasing another t-stat for my mothers home because she is away for 3 months in Florida during the winter and we want to know if there is a problem at the house with the heat. I will have no choice but to look at the competition if some answers arent forthcoming!

I sure could have used this last week. Something happened at our lake house and the furnace kept running until it reached 133 degrees inside the house. When I looked at the thermostat web page it had already shut off and "cooled" to 108 degrees. Doors and windows have been warped and nearly every plastic bottle with fluids in it was forced open by the pressure due to the heat. And it all could have been prevented if the thermostat I bought and installed (which advertises an alert capability) actually supported real alerts, instead of just sending me an email when it loses communication.

I know a recent college grad who can write awesome software. Going to ask him if he knows how to write a web app that will log into the web site and "scrape" the information that is needed so I can do my own alerts. Maybe I can offer it as a Windows 7 widget for people.

I too am confused on why this feature hasn’t been addressed yet. Since the infrastructure is already in place, it’s seems likes a simple problem to resolve. I’m also holding off purchasing additional units until this enhancement is provided. Seems to me that spending a little time to add this enhancement would lead to additional sales.

It seems the company doesn't care that we all want email temp alerts. Like was mentioned previously there have been multiple threads here asking for it. To me this feature is the main reason to get a internet accessible thermostat. Everyone who complains should just buy something else because in my opinion that will be the only way to get the companies attention. (Most likely that won't work either but you will have a thermostat with basic functionality.)

Also, if you know someone who can get this code written that would be a good way to generate some revenue for yourself as I am pretty sure several would pay for it and this feature isn't currently available from other API's for the device. If you beat Thermostat for Windows to it you could probably get several of their customers as well.

Ahh, but we do care!
We are constantly gathering and testing new ideas - every customer suggestion is respecfully reviewed and tested. But, alas, these things take time.

The largest current customer request is for an easier way to connect. Our engineers responded with apps that are easy to use and understand.
